Life energy, expulsion of orgone waste, and psychic defecation
The following remarks should be viewed as speculative.
It is a basic principle of physics, linked to the laws of thermodynamics, that whenever work (including biological work) is done, heat and waste energy are produced. This is apparent in all industrial processes – there is waste and potential pollution. Processing information, in our brains or in AI supercomputers, consumes energy and produces heat. At the purely biological level, we consume energy via food and water and expel the waste as faeces and urine. As we breathe in fresh air, we expel the waste as carbon dioxide.
On this basis, it is easy to understand that at the level of subtle energy – the life energy that flows through our meridians and chakras – there is also a need to expel waste. Wilhelm Reich, originally a psychoanalyst, conducted experiments in the 1930s and 40s which led to his theory of orgone life energy, at both cosmic and biological levels. His observations and theorising are highly congruent with modern energy psychology and the later findings of the behaviour of “subtle energy” by physicist William Tiller. Orgone or subtle energy is self-organising and neg-entropic.
Reich found that if the flow of orgone is blocked, it becomes stale and toxic in the body, causing both psychological and physical problems. Following Freud’s original observations regarding the role of blocked libido in neurosis and hysteria, Reich emphasised the function of the orgasm in the maintenance of a healthy “sex economy”. However, the need for discharge of waste orgone may be wider than the realm of sexuality.
At the subtle energetic level, the energy psychologist will readily recognise the way in which client and practitioner become one communicating energy field during the therapeutic hour. Even within conventional psychoanalysis, the way in which the analyst may register emotional and cognitive information through the “countertransference” is well-established (Heimann, 1950). It is understood that such information transfer goes beyond that communicated in words or via the ordinary sense organs.
It has also long been recognised that some clients use a psychotherapy session as a means, not of processing emotional information, but of discharging unwanted emotional and energetic waste – or beta elements, as Wilfred Bion (1962) called them. Bion described how certain psychotic patients, or psychotic parts of the patient, may use the mind like a muscle – like a psychic organ of evacuation. In these conditions, the client feels better after the session and psychotherapist feels worse. Toxic energetic waste has been expelled into the therapist. All of this is non-conscious and non-sensory. Neither party is consciously aware of the process. In the long term, psychotherapy can be a toxic profession – resulting in illness. It must also be acknowledged that sometimes the process works in the opposite direction – the analyst or psychotherapist is continually and non-consciously discharging into the patient. These processes may be particularly pronounced, in either direction, if the sessions are frequent and take place over a long period.
These phenomena are almost certainly not confined to the psychotherapeutic consulting room. They probably occur potentially in all interpersonal situations, and within and between groups, and in organisations. Waste orgone accumulates merely through being alive, and there is a continual need for discharge. Some people are predominantly dischargers, while others are predominantly receptors who are made ill by the build up of toxic waste energy from both their own system and from others.
These patterns, of projective discharge by one person or group into another target person or group, also relate to the scapegoat syndrome that I have outlined previously. A target person or group is unconsciously (and sometimes consciously) chosen to be the receptacle for unwanted negative or karmic energetic phenomena – allowing the perpetrators to thrive.
These may also relate to constellations of narcissism. A “purified” self-image is maintained by means of continual projective discharge of psychoenergetic waste into others.
In the framework of Blue Diamond Healing, there are two counter-rotating higher dimensional spiralling fields of energy – the top, clockwise field, brings in fresh life energy and information, whilst the lower, counterclockwise field, takes out the waste. This is a precise analogue of the familiar process of breathing at the physical level of the lungs. It probably corresponds to all healthy processes of prayer – the seeking of cleansing contact with higher dimensions. When people have cut themselves off from prayer-like activity, their waste orgone may accumulate. Other healthy ways of discharge the waste energy include wholesome physical activities, loving sexual embrace, and contact with nature, particularly trees.
Psychotherapists need to use effective and routine methods of discharge of waste orgone that they may have accumulated from the day’s contact with their clients and patients. Most modes of energy psychology procedures can be adapted for this purpose. A simple method is to place a couple of fingers on the Blue Diamond energy centre under the collar bones, and the other hand on the heart chakra, and to state firmly (aloud or silently) “I command expulsion of all toxic energies from my system now” – the waste can be imagined as flowing down a counterclockwise spiral into the earth.
